Since 2006, the Ranking Web is published twice a year (January and July), covering more than 20,000 Higher Education Institutions worldwide. We intend to motivate both institutions and scholars to have a web presence that reflect accurately their activities. If the web performance of an institution is below the expected position according to their academic excellence, university authorities should reconsider their web policy, promoting substantial increases of the volume and quality of their electronic publications. If you need further clarification regarding the motivations of the Ranking or the methodology, please read the FAQ.

If your university appears on the Directory, but it is not included in the Ranking, please consider to make a strong effort to increase the number of international academic quality web pages at your website. If you think there is a mistake, you can contact us.

The section Premier League (Excel Files) is the repository of the current and previous editions?excel files (xls) for the Top 500 that can be used freely citing the source. We do not provide larger, or previous years files and we do not answer commercial or anonymous requests (@yahoo, @gmail, @hotmail, etc).

The Third edition of the International Workshop will take place in Madrid (Spain) on September. We have already confirmation of the participation of experts representing the main World University Rankings. As usual attendance is free of charge. Final dates and more information to be announced.

A new beginning: information concerning the 2011 edition

all through the last 8 many years we have designed an enormous work to enhance the two the protection along using the best quality from the Ranking. For this edition we have updated the entries of numerous nations like India, Pakistan, Iraq, or even the Baltic countries. We have cleaned the report of Brazilian institutions, upgrading the brand of numerous chinese language program Colleges (now Universities), and re-arranged geographically the united states and canadian universities supplying new rankings by regions.

But the most important changes are related to methodology. Most of them have been suggested by the users and finally we have the technical resources to implement them, others have been introduced to better reflect the true impact of the academic web contents. We will prepare an academic paper explaining more in detail these changes, but in the following list you can find a brief summary:

Exalead search engine has been excluded due to strong geographical biases detected.
The G-factor has been included as an added value to calculate the visibility indicator for the Top 1000 universities.
Now, the Scholar indicator refers only to items published between 2006 and 2011.

In previous editions the outrageous practices were penalized, including contracting link farms, populating repositories with external papers, duplicating the contents or even including almost empty pdf files. This is an unethical and in some cases even an illegal behavior.

Only universities with an independent domain are considered. If one institution has more than one main domain, we analyze all of them but only the best ranked is published, even if this domain is not the new (current) or the preferred one.
